Realistic Chic is a budding author - who has had her short-fiction published - and an amateur clothing designer. This blog is started in an effort to chronicle the decorating and renovating of my first condo as well as to share my creative passions and blab about fashion (including the occasional period reproduction), photography, online shopping, art, vintage paraphernalia, DIY, and life. Thanks so much for visiting and feel free to share a comment!

I'm off!
Well, finals are officially done, I have my first full night's sleep in over three weeks planned for tonight, and I still haven't even started xmas shopping. I hope you're doing much better than I am. I'll be taking the next two weeks off so I can sort my brain, my new condo, my holiday family/friend-seeing schedule, and anything else needing attention. But first, some of the most inspiring images for me from the past year (these are all from a cataloging folder I've compiled over the year so I apologize for not tagging them):
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Velvet!
I was prowling Urban Outfitters and instantly wished I had a friend in the States who would let me use their address to order these lovely velvet pillows for only $20US each! Unfortunately, UO doesn't ship anything bigger than a pair of jeans (even if it's light and the customer doesn't mind paying extra for shipping) to Canadian customers and these dreamy fluffs are only available online so I can't drive to Washington to purchase them. JERKFACES! Ahem. Sorry.
While I'm at it, I might as well complain that I can't order their chesterfields either...
SIMPLY STUNNING. They're so cheap too!

The weather outside is frightful...
so buy these for me plskthx.

I know this one's a splurge but I love how it would look with a just pair of black stiletto boots

I've decided that winter is awesome if only for pea coats.

Mercury rising
The stuff on its own may be highly toxic, but mercury in glass makes the most elegant shabby chic decor, not to mention a great compliment to any holiday display:
The greatest part about these finds is they'll transform any room in a romantic vintage-inspired haven. Ahhhhh.
You can also get them in different shades
Anthropologie even makes mercury glass drawer knobs. Is there anything chic they don't have?

Xmas time is here....
When is the right time to put up the xmas decor? When should we be pulling out the plastic tree that every year seems to be missing a new piece, even though we swore we packed it all up properly the year before? And the lights with how delicately we put them away, are always amazed to find half the strand broken...again?
Typically people say December 1st, though some do it as early as November 12th (day after remembrance day).
It's only ten days till Christmas and I have still yet to decorate with holiday cheer. I'll blame it on the moving-into-our-first-owned-home mixed with five finals to complete as being perhaps, a possible cause.
When did you get your tree up? Or do you still have that on your list of "To Do"?

chic chiffon
Well, the semester is finally over with. I was relaxing for the first time in two weeks today and came across this lovely designer, Samuelle, who's inspired by chiffon socialite gowns of the 1950's (aren't we all?)
Enjoy and have a great weekend!

I just love the rain
rona keller
Vancouver is probably the only place in the world that gets more rain than Seattle. Only the local mountains get snow, while the city is soaked from about mid-August to mid-June, every year. Needless to say, umbrellas here are not only fashionable, they're a must. I dunno why people see that as a bad thing, rain is incredibly romantic anyways. The best kissing scenes in movies are always in the rain.
The Notebook (also the sexiest man alive)
Obviously...

The greatest kiss in the rain ever....BAT

Pirates of the Carribean
So.....take THAT sunshine, hail and snow! Rain is where it's at!

Romantic canopy beds!

This one from Anthrophologie $1800
This one from Pottery Barn is $1299

This one from Room & Board is $999

This is Ballard Designs and is only $799!

As always, Ikea has the cheapest option. It may not be cast iron, but you can at least hang panels of fabric from it, paint it any colour, and it'll look fabulous always. $389!!!
